Movies. Everyone watches them and everyone has some movie that they remember fondly. I have learned that critics of movies and IMDB top 100 lists are absolute crap and many of the movies on there absolutly have no right to be there. In my opinion, there are many more movies that deserve higher spots than most of the movies in the top ten lists, and here is my list of movies that deserve more respect then just cult classic status.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail is arguably one of the best movies of all time, being an insanely funny movie with the ability to actually have a good story line that everyone can remember. Plus, most people are familiar with the legend of King Arthur, therefore giving an element of suprise when the first scene comes in. I mean come on, where did they get those coconuts? Actually the reason why they used coconuts is because the movies budget didn't have enough for live horses, and they wanted the sound effect of horses moving. I'm sure Graham Chapman thought the bit was funny enough to put in the movie. Not only were they too poor for horses, they were also too poor to even finish the movie. That's why it ends so abruptly with the British police showing up and arresting everyone. Did you know that King Arthur is the only one in the movie with real chain mail armor? All of the other armor looking costume pieces were just knitted yarn to look like chain mail armor. Monty Python and the Holy Grail also is one of the most quotable movies of all time. Any person with real taste over 20 years old will know what people are talking about when you ask whether the bird they saw was an African or European swallow. I sure do.
This movie is the ultimate swiss army knife of all of cinema. It has a mix of every genre you can think of in a movie besides things like sci-fi. If you don't like the movie, "Are you kidding? Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Revenge. Giants. Monsters. Chases. Escapes. True love. Miracles," what more could you want from a movie? This movie is also the best book to movie translation I have ever seen, with most details in the book being added to the movie. I mean come on, they even added the dialogue from the book into the movie and still made it work. This movie is also highly quoted. Who doesn't say, "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die," every day? If you don't, there is something seriously wrong with you. /j
Though there has been an occuring theme in this list, that being 70's and 80's mostly comedy movies, this one kind of strays from that category. Wargames is a movie about a teenage hacker in the 80's, who almosts starts World War III with the soviets, until, spoiler alert, he saves everyone in the end. While very cliche, the plot of the movie is very interesting, and unique from other movies. Another movie that is almost kind of close to this is the 1995 film, Hackers. Really the one common theme between these two, are that they involve computer hacking, and saving the world from a terrible disaster usually somehow linked to them. Overall, it has a very good story, and an even better cast list. Who doesn't love Mathew Broderick? Except for that time when he accidentally killed somebody in a car accident.
